The Celebrity Solstice seven day cruise to the eastern Caribbean embarks from and returns to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The cruise usually visits Puerto Rico, several of the Virgin Islands and has a few days at sea. Celebrity is a well-run organization and this was reflected in the cruise experience. The cruise was on schedule, staff members were for the most part polite and helpful, and facilities were in good order and were looked after.
The Solstice is one of five ships in the Solstice Class, a larger cruise ship class. The Solstice was launched in 2008. It has 16 decks and can accommodate 2,800 passengers. Rooms range from penthouse suites to interior rooms. The ship offers typical amenities found on most large cruise ships, such as pools, a gym, sauna, theatre, multiple standard and specialty restaurants, as well as a casino and various shops. A more unusual feature is a grass lawn on the top deck. The ship is non-smoking except for a few exterior locations on upper decks. Prices can range from $700 to $1,200 per person for a shared interior room. Holiday travel times may be more expensive.
Celebrity is known for its food and it did not disappoint. The food was consistently appetizing and was excellent at the Murano Restaurant. Entertainment was average except for a Cirque du Soleil type act which was quite good. Room service and room facilities were both fine. There was a wide range of ages on the cruise, including many families with kids. A number of shore excursions were cancelled due to choppy seas. Overall, this cruise is a good choice if you are primarily seeking to relax while on vacation as opposed to a cruise that offers more learning and cultural enrichments and/or more time in port.
