First review

Opened in 1994, Cafe Sunflower is one of the leading vegetarian restaurants in Atlanta. The restaurant offers an eclectic mix of dishes such as Asian, American, Italian and Mexican. The common ingredient is that everything is vegetarian. The restaurant also serves vegan dishes but is not a purely vegan restaurant.

There are two Cafe Sunflower locations in Atlanta and each has a slightly different menu. One of the primary differences is that the Buckhead location serves beer and wine whereas Sandy Springs does not. Both restaurants are unpretentious and casual. Sandy Springs accepts reservations but they are generally not necessary. An owner, Lin Sun, also has a cookbook available for sale on the restaurant’s website and on Amazon.com.

If you like vegetarian food and even if you usually eat meat, Cafe Sunflower is a high quality and offbeat choice for lunch or dinner. For herbivores, instead of being limited to one or two items, everything on the menu is an option. If you are a carnivore, there are a number of credible meat substitutes like a veggie loaf and soy burger. The steamed dumplings or rainbow pancake are worth considering as an appetizer. One of the best entrees here is the moo shu vegetables. It’s similar to the Chinese restaurant dish but less greasy. The stir fry tofu also is a reliable choice. The vegan chocolate cake makes a great dessert. This restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere and is quiet enough to have a conversation at a normal tone, so it’s good venue for a date or for a small dinner party. Cafe Sunflower also can rent out the entire restaurant for larger parties and does catering. Cooking classes are offered as well.
