The Grand Hyatt Hotel is an upscale, full-service hotel in the Buckhead area of Atlanta. It was built in 1990 as the Hotel Nikko and became a Hyatt hotel in 1997. The hotel has approximately 430 guest rooms and 17 meeting rooms. It is 25 floors.
The Grand Hyatt has a prominent location on Peachtree street and is near popular shopping malls Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza. The hotel has typical amenities you would expect in a full-service facility, including 24 hour room service, a seasonal pool, fitness center, restaurants and a bar. The hotel also boasts a Japanese style rock garden, which links to its Hotel Nikko days. Car parking is either by valet or on one’s own. It’s slightly cheaper to self-park. Pets up to 25 pounds are permitted but require a non-refundable deposit. The hotel has a few smoking rooms on the 4th floor; otherwise it’s a non-smoking facility.
The hotel stay was suitable but not stellar. The room and bed were comfortable and clean. Service however was mediocre and the staff lacked interest in going beyond “the basics.” Other facilities such as the pool, gym and restaurants were generally adequate. To minimize street noise, request an upper floor room facing the garden. On the plus side, the hotel’s location is very convenient to the shops, restaurants, and clubs in Buckhead that should be of interest. The hotel offers a courtesy shuttle up to a 2 mile radius. Room rates vary but expect to pay between $160-300 for a basic room. For about $50 the hotel offers a club level, which includes continental breakfast, Internet access, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. The Grand Hyatt is good but ranks slightly below the top tier full-service hotels in Atlanta.
