TruFire Kitchen and Bar is a low-key, welcoming and cool place to hang out. It's located just off the North Texas Tollway in a modern and moderately swank shopping center. Drinks, food and service all scored high marks at this well-run and well-appointed bar and restaurant.

Somewhere between a bar and restaurant, TruFire has elements of both and is suitable for either. From a bar perspective, the actual bar is a prominent feature and is large enough for people to not feel crowded or have to fight for a bartender’s attention. As for a restaurant, there are semi-private areas and outdoor terrace seating which provide some separation from bar scene. The music volume is just about perfect, loud enough to be heard but quiet enough to have a conversation without shouting.

As for drinks, the blackberry smash cocktail was average tasting. The vodka was saturated by a lemon and blackberry combination. It was a bit like soda but not as good. The house martini though was great, dry, perfectly balanced and with a generous serving. It’s even better infused with a lemon to impart some flavor. Also quite good and smooth tasting was a Chilean Pinot Noir. Food does not take a back seat to drinks here. The fire roasted artichoke and sweet potato appetizers were well cooked, tasty and were accompanied by interesting and distinctive sauces. The Go Fish grouper with vegetables was expertly cooked and tasted delicious. A pan seared Napa chicken entrée with a copious serving of meat had a bold garlic flavor. The rice was slightly better than the chicken and a side dish of marinated carrots was better still. As for service, it was attentive and professional. TruFire is better suited for adults than families. It works well for a quick drink or long dinner and is definitely recommended.
