Big pizza slices for a late night crowd
Serious Pizza is a casual free-spirited restaurant in Deep Ellum. It's open late and caters to a happening crowd. Surrounded by a restless mix of bars and nightclubs and live music, Serious entices the young and the hungry with the guilty decadent pleasures of delicious pizza, large servings and a mellow but boisterous state of being.
Serious opened in 2011 and has quickly become a favorite for the Deep Ellum crowd. It can get very crowded here, especially on weekends. Long lines form and waits of an hour or more should not come as a surprise during busier times. Serious offers takeout but not delivery. Most people eat at the restaurant. The dining room itself is a basic rectangle in shape and with seating at a bar in front of the pizza ovens or in booths along a wall. It’s not fancy, but people come for the food not the ambiance. The pizza is thin crust style.
A basic slice of pizza with one topping costs about $4.00, which seems pricey but the slices and pies here could feed an army. Both the pizza and the salad were above average. The veggie slice pizza had a good balance between the cheese and the toppings, not too much of either but not too little. It was tasty and filling and tasted even better with crushed red pepper. The salads also are generously sized. The house salad was fresh but had limited toppings. Serious also makes a couple of the salad dressings, Caesar and House Vinaigrette. Calzones are also available and are enormous. Any place that can pack a crowd at 2:00 in the morning must have something to offer. Numbers don’t lie, even for drunken revelers looking to satiate their pangs. Serious is not for everyone and it can get a bit raucous when busy, but the food quality and portions make it a magnet for pizza cravings in this neck of the woods.
