Thai Star Restaurant is a small, somewhat eclectic restaurant. It’s a single location family-owned business that is a diamond in the rough. While the décor, atmosphere and service were mediocre, the overall food quality was good, and the size/value of the portions relative to price was great.

Thai Star opened in 2010. It is located in the back of a small office complex. Unless you know of the restaurant, it’s unlikely you would ever find it. Thai Star has one rectangular shaped dining room. It’s a bit cramped, but there is a slightly more private seating area that is set off from the rest of the tables by a low partition. Background noise was fairly loud. Decorations are Thai in nature but were not especially impressive, although some light fixtures made from jungle explorer hats were a nice touch.

The fried calamari appetizer was a bit undercooked and the batter was too thick. The taste was fair but this is not one of the better dishes. Higher up the taste and quality rank were vegetarian dumplings, which had a medium spicy taste and worked well with some soy dipping sauce. Entrees can be made spicier upon request and a stir fired broccoli was served extra spicy. It’s a dish you can find at many Asian restaurants. The Thai Star version was good with properly cooked chicken and fresh tasting vegetables. If you are looking for something different, consider the khao soi noodles dish. It won a local taste of the town competition and has both a pleasant taste and fragrant aroma. The combination of coconut flavored broth, tomatoes and fried noodles all worked well together. A specialty Thai kai dessert with ice-cream, sherbet and a sweet pastry was a delectable conclusion. Service here was polite but somewhat disorganized, and food arrived at different times. Where it counts the most – the food - Thai Star offered a quality meal at very reasonable prices. Thai Star accepts reservations which can be a good idea on Friday and Saturday nights.
