First review
Hilton Garden Inn New Orleans is a more upscale hotel located in the business district of New Orleans and a few blocks from the French Quarter. The hotel opened in 2004 in a former bank building. A parking garage occupies the first 10 floors of the property, with hotel facilities on floors 11-18. The hotel is non-smoking except for the 13th floor.

The Garden Inn is a draw for business travelers given its downtown location. It also can attract Mardis Gras traffic since many of the parades pass nearby on St. Charles Street. Facilities include a bar and restaurant. An exterior pool on the roof offers great views of New Orleans. The Mardis Gras parades can be seen from the roof, though to get the experience it pays to be on the street among the throngs. Room rates range from the mid $100s to high $200s, depending on occupancy levels and time of year. Overnight parking costs can add another $30 to the bill. Rooms have a small refrigerator and microwave.

The stay here was mixed but more positive than negative. A big plus was the quiet. Most rooms face an interior courtyard area, which helped to avoid hearing the noises of city life. The room and bathroom were both clean. A king sized bed included an adjustable air mattress that enhanced comfort. Also, the front desk staff, bar staff and restaurant staff were generally helpful, attentive and engaging. On the other hand, housekeepers did not adequately restock items like tissue paper and towels on occasion. The shower lever did not hold its position when engaged, so it had to be continually reset. An air filter on the air conditioner unit was dirty. The air conditioner itself would noisily cycle on and off too frequently, and the room temperature fluctuated too much. Nevertheless, the stay was satisfying enough to come back, but the level of value received for a relatively high price may lessen its appeal for those looking for a higher end package without any hiccups. The food is covered in another review.
