The Holiday Inn Express at the Grand Canyon is a 3 story economy hotel located just outside the national park’s South Rim entrance. The hotel, which includes 2 separate buildings, was constructed in 1995, and includes 196 rooms, of which 35 are suites. The hotel is non-smoking and has a no pet policy.
The hotel is larger than average but includes the same types of amenities as comparable hotels, such as an indoor pool, breakfast area, and computers with Internet access. However, there was not a workout room. The hotel was recently renovated but still had some minor dings and scratches in the hallways and elevators. Rates here vary widely based on times of year and days of week. In the winter offseason, rates can get as low as $80-90 for a standard room, but summer rates for the same room can reach $200. Suites are slightly larger than standard rooms and include a refrigerator and microwave. There also are a couple of larger suites with an extra room and bunk beds that cost significantly more.
The stay here was satisfactory without major hiccups or concerns. The room heater worked well and the room temperature was comfortable. Bathroom facilities worked properly, though the bathroom itself was cramped. The room and bathroom were clean and the bed was comfortable. A minor annoyance was that the room door tended to stick so it had to be yanked open but once a method to open it was worked out, it ceased to be an issue. Both the front desk and the housekeeping staff were courteous. The hotel did get busy though. It seems like a high traffic location so you may have some company for both services and breakfast. Although the hotel did not have a workout room, the indoor pool and whirlpool were clean and in good order. Both the pool and whirlpool were busy up until late at night in the winter offseason, so expect some company here as well. Overall, the hotel provided solid value for the money and worked well as a convenient lodging option near the national park.
