Monmouth Plantation is a 26 acre bed and breakfast that features a historic house built in 1818 and also has six cottages. It is located in a quiet, historical area in Natchez and the grounds include attractive and inviting lawns, gardens, ponds and fountains.

This historic house was converted to a B&B in 1978 and extensive renovations were made. Cottages were added in the 1980s for additional guest accommodations. Room types range from standard rooms to superior suites with double bedrooms and bathrooms and large living rooms. There are 5 units in the main house and 30 overall. All rooms are decorated with period mid-1800s furniture. Room prices generally range from $195 for a standard room up to $395 for a high-end suite. Included in the room cost are breakfast, evening hors d oeuvres, and a tour of the main house. There is a more upscale restaurant which serves a five course dinner. A seven course dinner also is available by special arrangement. A lounge serves more casual food such as hamburgers.

Overall, the stay here was enjoyable. The standard room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The bed and bathroom facilities were in good condition. There was not enough time to try out the dinner, but the free breakfast was mediocre. Service was generally helpful and attentive. It should be noted that the property does not have a swimming pool. There are some ponds, but they are more decorative in nature. Monmouth has a Southern charm and grace that typifies a stay here. While there are less expensive accommodations in Natchez, if you prefer a hospitable lodging experience that has some distinctiveness and is conveniently located near many of the city’s historic homes, Monmouth is a fine choice.
